Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Receiver - AVR-X1700H-R Amazing! The sound presence that this receiver provides is simply amazing. I use Roku for streaming services and the colors and sound are fantastic. I currently run a 3.1 surround sound and it's really give a 3D sound to sports and movies. Definitely a step above the Onkyo in the same price range. For the price this receiver rocks. Next, ordering surround sound speakers to complete 5.1 The setup for this is really nice with the on screen settings. Yes you need to understand how to setup your speakers, but it also has a wizard type guide to help you with that. I'm a pro tech so I understand how to set it up. There are a lot of options and some of it will depend on your tv and personal preferences. One note, make sure you buy quality HDMI cables, ones that can run 8K and 60Hz. The video and sound will be much better if you do. Cables are not equal so do your research. Thanks Denon for a superb product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful piece of art I just received the Denon AVR-X1700H yesterday to replace my old Yamaha 5.1 system. I currently have 5 .1 speakers and would like to buy additional speakers to fullfil the 7.2, i am lost between dolby atmos ceiling speakers or the ones that just point up, do you have an illustration of the ideal speaker configuration to maximize the potential of Denon, and another question, does Denon prefer a specific speaker brand? thank you

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AVR X1700 Good fit for a medium sized system. High level video and audio performance. Replaced a 12 year old Onkyo 7.2 receiver. Refurbished but can’t distinguish from new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my application I wanted a receiver that won't break the bank, but sound good and has 8K capability for future use. I have this installed running 7.2 (2 front, 2 surround, 1 center, 2 ceiling atmos, and 2 subs). I found the menu settings user friendly, and was able to tweak the settings for the best sound in my living room. I had issues with bluetooth connectivity, and called support. They were able to resolve my issue promptly. So far I have had this receiver for about a month. I wanted to give it time to break my speakers in. I am pleased with the sound quality for both music and movies. For a refurb product, it is excellent.

I'm looking to replace my living room receiver. I currently have an RCA cable taking my LR turntable to a second (Denon) receiver in the basement where I have a 7.1 home theater set up. Will this allow me to continue to do that using Zone 2 output?

Asked by: jkuehl
Hello, Yes - the AVR-X1700H has a Zone 2 pre-out, which provides the feed of analog source to be selected and then sent to wherever you have Zone 2 connected to. In case it appeals to you, the replacement model for the AVR-X1700H is the AVR-X1800H, which also has a front left and right pre-out. This would give you the same option, but freeing-up the Zone 2 output for another use, should you have one.

I would like to do a home entertainment system using a Denon Receiver, passive L,R and center speakers, a powered Sub and 2 wireless rear speakers such as the Home 150 - Is this possible with the Denon receivers? if so which?

Asked by: willyMT
Hello, Like with most AVRs, current Denon AV receivers require the speakers in the Main Zone (the speaker surround set-up) to be connected to the speaker terminals on the rear panel. Our wireless Home speakers are designed to receive 2 channel audio for music sources, or for use with the Home 550 Soundbar as wireless surround speakers.

I am looking at the AVR-1700H. I currently have 4 HEOS 1 wireless speakers, 3 HEOS 3 wireless speakers and a SC HHC BAR sound bar. Can I connect my wireless speakers and sound bar to the AVR-1700H and play my TV through it? Any info. Is appreciated.

Asked by: Kurt369
Hello, Soundbars are typically powered devices, and are designed to be in place instead of a surround receiver, not to be partnered with a surround receiver, because they do not need powering. They connect directly to a TV's ARC or eARC HDMI port, or with optical or an analog cable if the TV does not have an ARC port. HEOS speakers of any variety are designed only to receive 2 channel information from HEOS-equipped surround receivers, and are typically used in rooms other than where the surround receiver resides. Any surround speakers intended for use with our current surround receivers would need to be hardwired. HEOS wireless speakers are not equipped to receive a discrete surround feed, but they can be partnered with our HEOS equipped Soundbar called the Home 550 to work as surround speakers.

Hi. Could the X1700H do a 5.1 setup and a 2.1 in Zone 2, possibly using the same subwoofer for both? Also, can I pair Bluetooth headphones to the X1700H for times I want to use headphones instead of speakers?

Asked by: 2screensgene
Hello, The AVR-X1700H allows for 5.1 in the Main Zone and 2.0 in Zone 2 with wired speakers. If you want to have a sub-woofer in a different zone, you can add our optional Home speakers, which are wireless, work as a Zone speaker in up 32 locations in your home, and they also support the use of a wireless sub-woofer. They are not compatible with the Main Zone set-up (the surround speakers need to be hard-wired), but they are very useful if you want sound anywhere else in your home with sources selected either from the AVR-X1700H, or from the many popular streaming services which are available with the free HEOS app. Here is a link to all the details: https://www.denon.com/en-us/category/wireless-speakers/

Hi. Let's say my Main Zone has FR, FL, C, two overhead speakers and a subwoofer installed, and I'm also using channels 6 and 7 for Zone 2. In this case, can AVR-X1700 have the Main Zone set to 3.1.2 instead of 5.1, so that I can enjoy Dolby Atmos? Thanks.

Asked by: cmonteiro188
Hello, The AVR-X1700H can do what you want it to do for configuration, but it would require an external power amplifier to drive the Zone 2 speakers using the Zone 2 Pre-out. Only one pair of speakers driven by the AVR-X1700H are assignable, so it can power either a pair of height speakers, or a pair Zone 2 speakers, but not both without using an external power amplifier.

Can i connect a separate headphone amp and dac to this device, if so which output is it and where do i control the output sound?

Asked by: roger21
Hello, A separate headphone amplifier can be connected to the Zone 2 output of the AVR-X1700H. Unfortunately, there is no digital output for a separate DAC.
