Hello, The DCD-1600NE is a CD and Super Audio CD player. It does not have a DVD transport and therefore cannot play any type of DVD.

Can I connect to my Hegel H390 through Optical and Coax simultaneously so I can switch between SACD and Redbook without changing cables?

Hi Michael, A digital SACD signal from an SACD player cannot be sent via coaxial or optical cable. It is by design as it is a copywrite issue. You can connect the DCD1600NE to you Hegel to hear both formats, but you may only need to use a pair of RCA cables. RCA cables are necessary for SACD playback. It is the only way your Hegel H390 can receive SACD information as the digital to analog decoding has to occur within the DCD-1600NE. You can still connect the two units with a digital cable (coaxial or optical) for CD playback, as you can then choose if you prefer the decoding for RedBook CD in one unit or the other by comparing while switching between analog and digital..

Is this cd player a single-item piece? Does it need other pieces (speakers? amplifier? to work? Where are the speakers? Is it electric or battery? Does it come with a remote?

Hello, The DCD-1600NE is a hi-fi separate. This means it is a stand-alone CD player and needs to be partnered with an integrated amplifier, a pre/power amp, or a receiver.
