Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny I scoured the internet for days to find my next AV receiver. Considering the features for the price, no other receiver matched the AVR-970H for my budget. As I was upgrading from a 20 year old Yamaha, produced before HDMI was a thing, I really didn't understand how everything was going to work. And the first day with the Denon was rough. Hard learned lesson: Check for a firmware update before you do anything else! After taking the time to set everything up, including figuring out the Inputs grid, I am extremely pleased with this machine. I worried that the 90W output was too low, I had 110W previously, but it sounds like it drives the speakers harder, which was a nice surprise. I appreciate the flexibility in assigning the second zone. I'm enjoying a 7.1 configuration now, but I'll swap to a 5.1 and put zone 2 speakers outside for the summer time. In which case, the HEOS functionality and app have been a pleasure. They suffer from a lack of basic music player functions, like, why can't I access my Playlists from the receiver directly?!? I don't want to open the app when I'm sitting in front of the receiver, remote in hand. Oh well, once it's playing, it's working well for us. In terms of driving sound, I give this receiver a 10/10. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent AVR Heck of an upgrade over my 10 year old Onkyo home theater in a box AVR. It has 3 4k 120hz inputs. The AVR 960 that I was considering only has 1. I have an XBOX, PS5 and a 3080Ti connected to the AVR970. No problem passing the XboxSX/PS5/PC 4k 120hz, VRR (PC GSYNC) output to my LG C1. Audio quality with the 970 driving my old Onkyo speakers is much better than I had expected. Very excited for my new Polk speakers to arrive! As a gamer and movie lover, I highly recommend the 970.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's not just about the receiver The receiver has worked flawlessly. The sound is crisp the video shockingly clear. Moreover, pr equally important, is the company that stands behind their products. Responsive with questions. Helpful. Supportive. I will never buy from another AVR maker again. Been through 2 competitors. Nightmarish experiences. Never again.

I can't decide if It would be better to use an ethernet connection or wifi connection. Does the AVR-S970H receiver have a Gigabit ethernet port? If not what speed is it? I can't find this information in the specifications section of the manual

Asked by: David23
Hi David23, It is always better to use the ethernet port. Unfortunately, I do not have the details on the supported speeds of the ethernet port.

The spec says this comes with Audessey MultiEQ, but under the Key Technologies section on this website and in the info sheet pdf, it says MultiEQ XT32 comes with this receiver. Which is it?

Asked by: Jimmy31
Hello, The AVR-S970H comes with Audyseey's MultEQ technology. This is confirmed by the information on our webpage for the AVR-970H: https://www.denon.com/en-us/product/av-receivers/avr-s970h/300612-new.html

Hi there - would this AVR work well with my Martin Logan 35XT speakers? please advise on any recommendations would be greatly appreciated - thank you

Asked by: Mychef
Hello, Yes - the AVR-S970H will work very well with Martin Logan 35XT's. If you have a large room, you may want to consider the AVR-X3800H, but larger speakers are generally required to sound good in a large room.

I have an older plasma TV that is not streaming capable. I am trying to hook up my cable box as well as an Apple TV streaming device, while connecting the audio to a Sonos Beam2 system. It can only use eARC HDMI out or Optical. Can this work with that

Asked by: Joegopher
Hello, Your Sonos Beam will work with an ARC-equipped TV, but not with an AVR. You will either need passive speakers for the AVR-S970H, or you will need to upgrade your TV. Unfortunately, Soundbars are designed to be used instead of a receiver rather than with a receiver.

Would this support 230V 50Hz power input ?

Asked by: Geos
Hi Geos, The AVR-S970H is a 120V/60Hz unit. It is not designed to be used outside of North America and will not work with a 230V/50Hz electrical feed. Our AV receivers are covered under warranty only when used in the country in which they designed to be used.

Does this receiver support 120hz video refresh rate passthru when using game consoles such as PS5 or Xbox One series X. These would be connected to the receiver directly and then sent via the HDMI output to a TV capable of 120hz.

Asked by: BullDog
Hello, Yes - the AVR-S970H has three HDMI inputs marked 8K which support 4K/120 Hz feeds from compatible sources such as the PS5 and XBox Seris X. We recommend Audioquest HDMI cables for 4K/120Hz signals as they have yet to let us down.

Do I need to buy a separate amp in order for a setting up karoke or can everything run through this AVR-S970H receiver.

Asked by: Andy9999
Hi Andy9999, Many karaoke units can be connected to the AVR-S970H as they often have RCA outputs. While the AVR-S970H has a mic input, it is only for the auto set-up (Audyssey), it has no support for karaoke use.
