Rated 5 out of 5 by from Experience perfection Perfect addition to my home theater. Music, movies, sound absolutely perfect. Variety of sound fields gives you options aplenty. Setup was easy with onscreen menu, Auddesy speaker setup proved helpful to get full body sound. Had to retweek subwoofer after, but all was good. Fortunately I was able to get it for $ 300 off !!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny I scoured the internet for days to find my next AV receiver. Considering the features for the price, no other receiver matched the AVR-970H for my budget. As I was upgrading from a 20 year old Yamaha, produced before HDMI was a thing, I really didn't understand how everything was going to work. And the first day with the Denon was rough. Hard learned lesson: Check for a firmware update before you do anything else! After taking the time to set everything up, including figuring out the Inputs grid, I am extremely pleased with this machine. I worried that the 90W output was too low, I had 110W previously, but it sounds like it drives the speakers harder, which was a nice surprise. I appreciate the flexibility in assigning the second zone. I'm enjoying a 7.1 configuration now, but I'll swap to a 5.1 and put zone 2 speakers outside for the summer time. In which case, the HEOS functionality and app have been a pleasure. They suffer from a lack of basic music player functions, like, why can't I access my Playlists from the receiver directly?!? I don't want to open the app when I'm sitting in front of the receiver, remote in hand. Oh well, once it's playing, it's working well for us. In terms of driving sound, I give this receiver a 10/10. Love it!

I just got one of these for my husband and we are unable to get the subwoofer to play sound at all. Any help is greatly appreciated

Asked by: Mislyfox
Hello, Initially I would check the following: The sub-woofer has been connected to the sub-woofer pre-out on the rear panel of the AVR-S970H The sub-woofer volume dial (on it's front or rear panel) is not on zero (halfway point is a good place to start). The sub-woofer option has been selected as 'Yes' in the settings: https://manuals.denon.com/AVRS970H/NA/EN/GFNFSYcrpfrlsu.php Auto set-up (Audyssey room calibration with supplied microphone) is complete. https://manuals.denon.com/AVRS970H/NA/EN/GFNFSYhguxmdhl.php Because it could be one of a few things, some trouble-shooting might be required you are still not finding a fix. Here is a link to how our Product Support Team can be contacted. They are on hand to help with trouble-shooting: https://www.denon.com/en-us/support/contact-us.html

I have a brand new AVR- S970H. When playing turntable connected to the Unit’s phono jack , the signal periodically cuts out. I replaced a 40 year old turntable with brand new one - same problem. The manual says I shouldn’t need a preamp with MM cartridge.

Asked by: David Kurt

I have a 5.1.2 system with Polk S35/S55 up front, Polk OWM3 in the rear, Polk PSW350, and Polk Atrium 6 on Zone 2. Current AVR is a Denon S760H and it really feels underpowered, particularly with Zone 2. Would the S970H be adequate for this system?

Asked by: WillK
Hi WillK, The AVR-S970H will likely sound as though it is giving you some improvement over the AVR-S760H, but neither are designed to be at their best when running both the Main Zone and Zone 2 simultaneously. A bigger difference can be expected if you were to invest in the AVR-X2800H, which has beefed-up power supplies which handle the load of your speakers with greater composure. If you are quick, you might be able to jump on one of our refurbished models before they are all gone. It's a great way to save. They are tested to work to factory spec' and come with a one year warranty. https://www.denon.com/en-us/category/denon-certified-refurbished/

I have a Klipsch Dolby Atmos speaker that is the whole speaker not just angled add on to sit on top of existing speaker I want to use them in conjunction with center and rear speaker. What amp setting should I use?

Asked by: Steve44
Hi Steve44, The Atmos speakers you detail will need to be connected to the surround back speaker port. . Once connected - if your Atmos speakers are sitting atop your front left and right speakers - you will need to follow these instructions: https://manuals.denon.com/AVRS970H/NA/EN/DRDZSYiltbhifm.php#DRDZMLpiyrxfpv

Hello, does the 970h or 760h come with the Denon/Marantz 70% power guarantee like the higher end models have?

Asked by: Ma775
Hello, The 70% power guarantee for five channels driven starts with the AVR-X3800H in the Denon line-up. If you have a large room and/or speakers with a difficult load, it could well be in your interest to invest in a model with pre-outs. This will allow for growing room by adding external amplification should you wish to get the very best out of demanding speakers.

Hi, would you consider a 20’x 15’ space with high ceiling a medium size room? Or should go with 2700 model? What’s the main difference between avr x2700h and Avr x2800h models?

Asked by: Audio guy
Hello, I would say 20 x 15' qualifies as a medium sized room. The big difference between the AVR-X2700H and the AVR-X2800H is the latter has three 8K HDMI inputs and Atmos Music. If you want some growing room, the AVR-X3800H has pre-outs. This feature allows for system expansion by adding external power amplification.
