Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Value In Performanec and Convenience The Denon DP300F has been around a while and deservedly so. Good full-auto ‘tables for less than $500 are rare, and this would certainly seem to be a good one. Initial set-up was quick and painless, and I was spinning vinyl in just a few minutes. Arm action is smooth and quiet. Sound quality is quite good, all things considered, and can always be improved with an upgraded stylus or cartridge. No complaints here!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great turntable for the price I replaced an old Sony table with this model a year and a half ago and using the same Ortofon bronze this turntable sounds significantly better, very simple setup and the automatic mechanism is flawless can't beat this table for the price

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best automatic turntable for the price! I have always been a vinyl junkie, always. Last Christmas (2021), I decide to replace the main turntable in my home theater set up. I was using Gramavox's "Floating Record" vertical turntable at the time, mainly for it's visual appeal and "wow factor". While it is a great turntable in many ways, it also has several drawbacks including being a 100% manual turntable, and it is a very delicate & fragile unit with horrible skating issues and a heavy tracking force. I started off in the <$200 range and purchased a unit by a new company called "Angel Horn" for about $150. It was gorgeous to look at but had horrible motor issues resulting in unstable turntable speeds that would fluctuate WILDLY during a record playback. After returning 2 units for the same issue I figured I should probably up my budget to get a record player of better quality. That is when I found my Denon DP-300F, with a reduced price for the holidays, so I bought it. Right out of the box, I was impressed with its rich, polished appearance and obvious high quality construction. It is a thing of beauty! The set up was very standard, so quite easy, and it was ready for a test spin after about 10 minutes. The automatic features are silent, smooth and swift with incredible accuracy. The sound reproduction is a strong point here too with a solid built in preamp and decent cartridge/stylus included to get you started. I have been using this almost daily since then (about 8 months now) and I am still in awe of my new "toy". Even though I would certainly recommend this one to a friend ( I already have, actually), and would buy it again if I had to replace it, there are two small issues I have with it that I want to share . First, the included cartridge & stylus, while certainly useable, should really be upgraded to something a bit better. Mine had some real trouble handling some music fade outs at the end of a song. Often the sound would drop out on a channel then return & drop out on the other channel just to come back & drop out all together in the middle of a fade. I double & triple checked the tracking force, and anti-skate setting before giving up & replacing it with an Ortofon 2M Red. That problem was solved. Second, while the rotating speeds are EXTREMELY stable on both 45 & 33 1/3, it spins just slightly faster than it should, usually around 46-46.5 rpm & 34-34.2 rpm. While nothing major, it is slightly noticeable and should be just a bit more accurate. All in all, I truly enjoy my turntable and I look forward to many years of use from it.

Questions

I have a Yamaha MC-100 cartridge (with a hard-shell from the 1980s) (1.4+/-0.2g tracking force, output 0.2mV, 30 ohm impedance, and weight 9.6g) would it work with the DP-300F or DP-400? Does one need a different hard-shell and/or equalization/preamp?

Asked by: RonS
Hi RonS, The MC-100 will work well for either the DP-300 or DP-400, but you will need either a step-up transformer or a stand alone phono pre-amp which handles low output moving coil cartridges. If your MC-100 is a stock model, I would consider looking at a re-tip. Cartridges that old are likely to damage your LPs. 2-4 years of regular use is about as much as can be expected for the life of a moving coil cartridge before it is past it's best. That being said, we have the superb DL-103R available for about the cost of a good re-tip. Or you could pay a little less for the excellent value DL-110, which is a high-output moving coil design. This means it does not require a step-up transformer or a stand alone phono pre-amp. The DL-110 works very well with either of the tables you mention, and is very popular with vinyl enthusiasts who want moving coil sound from a moving magnet price. https://www.denon.com/en-us/product/turntables/dl-110

Does the turntable come with a phono cartridge and a stylis?

Asked by: MillerHighLife
Hello, Yes - the DP300F comes with a factory-fitted cartridge/stylus. The DP-300F also has it's own phono stage built-in (hidden under the platter), so it can work with a much wider range of amplifier/receiver without having to add an external phono pre-amplifier.

Where do you switch the preamp from on to off? I don't see it on the back.

Asked by: Preamp Off Guy
Hello, Good question. The switch for the phono equalizer on the DP-300F is beneath the platter. Page 2 of the owner's manual has all the details: https://www.denon.com/-/media/files/documentmaster/denonna/dp300fe3_eng_im_v04.pdf

The title page here says it plays 33 1/3 rpm, 45 rpm and 78 rpm. But the user guide shows that it only plays 33 1/3 and 45. So it does not play 78 rpm?

Asked by: Jerry C
Hello, It looks like a misprint as the DP-300F only offers rotation speeds of 33.3 and 45 rpm. Our DP400 and DP-450USB turntables are equipped with a 78 rpm speed setting. A 78 rpm-specific cartridge is recommended for playing 78 disks. This is where the removable headshell offers extra convenience. Having more than one headshell is a popular choice for users with 78 rpm disks.

Is a longer pin plug cable available from Denon?

Asked by: Ekaj
Hello, For the interconnects, this is not an accessory we manufacture, but they can be found at audio accessory specialists. It needs to be female at one end and male at the other. Shielded cables are recommended for the best results. For this type of application, it is best to keep the cable runs as short as possible, as the signal they carry can be prone to interference.

Hello, I just received my order and it seems the counterweight is missing. I went to the website listed on the warranty sheet and it does not exist anymore. How should I go about getting a replacement? Thank you!

Asked by: clur
Hi clur, The first thing to do is double-check all the packaging as the counter-weight with some of our models is often tucked-away in a small box or a pocket of the interior packaging for the main unit. If indeed the counterweight is missing, here is a link to our Sales Support Team who are on hand to assist: https://support.denon.com/

I have a new Denon 300f and it is very good. Is there a Denon stylus upgrade for sound quality when the times comes for this unit? What are your recommendations? Thanks!

Asked by: Claudio Amadeus
Hi Claudio, Congratulations on your DP-300F purchase. It is a design we are proud of, and is impressive enough to benefit from a cartridge upgrade when you are ready to get more information from the groove of your LPs. The DL-110 is the logical step up from the supplied cartridge. It is a high output moving coil cartridge, which means it you will not have to upgrade your phono pre-amp if it doesn't have a moving coil input. https://www.denon.com/en-us/product/turntables/dl-110

Does the DP-300F play well with Denon receiver model AVR-S970H or will I need an additional preamp?

Asked by: jSerina
Hello, The AVR-S970H and the DP-300F makes for a very good pairing. As the DP-300F has a switchable phono stage (on and off) you have the choice of connecting it to the AVR-S970H's phono input or one of it's line inputs.
