Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOW the 4800 is Next Level! Dirac Live is Here! So the receiver was already a top notch upgrade, saying you have a nice set of speakers and a quality sources. But Dirac Live (Full Version) is next level, this is your reason to upgrade to the AVR-X4800H. It makes such a cohesive and balanced bubble of sound after properly* configuring Dirac (make sure to watch a few YouTube videos). Save the default results as flat, and then create a movie and music curve the way you want it to sound. Once you have it how you think* you want it, upload it to the AVR and take it for a spin. Dirac has finally freed Denon AVR's into something exceptional, not just great. JUST FYI: You'll need a MiniDSP Umik-1 (or version 2, but not necessary), the curve text file from MiniDSP (90 degree version), a microphone stand to place the mic as instructed, the full Dirac license, your laptop annnd everyone out of the room (as close to absolute silence as possible). Watch some videos on setting up Dirac 3 so that you understand the initial settings etc. After each position is completed, hold on to your hats! You may need to adjust volumes here and there afterward, but you will notice that, wow, this thing sounds WAY better than Audyssey on its very best day in a perfect world with the Apps. Denon, thank you for adding Direc Live 3, now can we have Dirac Bass Management and Dirac ART (Active Room Treatment)? Unstoppable? Thank you in advance.

I recently upgraded from an AVR-3808CI and am unable to get sound from my Sony Blu-ray BDP-BX57. This is an old player. It worked fine with the 3808CI and I have tried changing audio options in the Blu-ray's settings. No luck so far..any suggestions?

Asked by: mattsdcubs
I also experienced this problem with a Sony BDP-S590. It's a bug in the HDMI handshake (communication between the HDMI in the AVR and the HDMI in the bluray player). Basically, if you hook the Sony bluray player to any non 4k HDMI port, it will work, the bug is with 4k HDMI ports. I found that the BDP-S580 works. I wanted a Sony bluray player because of SACD compatibility. Almost bought a Sony 4k bluray player because of this and I don't even have 4k bluray discs.

I am getting weird behavior a Fire TV Stick 4K Max (plugged into media player HDMI). 4K content from Disney+, Paramount+, Max displays as 1080p60. Prime and AppleTV+ show as 4K60. If I plug Fire Stick into Sony A80J tv, content streams in 3840x2160.

Asked by: teddeman
Hello, For less than highest resolution feeds, it is recommended to activate the HDMI Upscaler feature. It is a good idea to confirm the 4K/8K Signal format is set to 'Enhanced', or even '8K Enhanced' if using an 8K TV. There could also be a setting within the apps itself to set the highest resolution. If in doubt, I suggest you visit the App brand's website for more information. Disney Plus streams in 4K, or ultra-high definition — and unlike other platforms, you can stream 4K content at no extra cost. To watch 4K movies and shows on Disney Plus, you need to be using streaming devices and screens which are 4K-compatible. You'll also need to have a fast internet connection — try to aim for at least 25 megabits per second. Also, Version 2.1 HDMI cables are a good idea to get the highest performance and to be compliant with the HDCP 2.3 standard. We recommend Audioquest, as their HDMI cables have yet to let us down.
