Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vinyls LOVE the DP-400 Great TT from Denon. There was a reason that I held onto all my vinyls. Ones that I purchased back in the 70s. The vinyls spinning on the DP-400 along with Bowers and Wilkins speakers sounds fabulous!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing turn table! I had been wanting a new table. There was nothing wrong with mine, but I was ready to update. After much reading and sifting through reviews I decided on the DP400. I have a denon reciever and knew the quality would be there. I did upgrade to an ortofon red cartridge and this turntable just sings! I think a lot of time was put into making a quality table and tone arm that it's expected to that the stock cartridge isn't quite up to par. I also don't mind the dust cover. Would I prefer a cover that totally seals off the table? Yes. But this one looks cool and again, I think it was a way to save money and focus that into the quality of the rest of the components.

Questions

Will this turntable easily connect with any Denon receiver manufactured in the last 5 years?

Asked by: AaronG
Hi AaronG, Yes - the DP-400 excels in this area. The reason being is it gives the option of either using the phono stage built into the receiver (or an external phono pre-amp), or because the DP-400 has a built-in phono pre-amp itself, you can use a regular analog line input of your receiver. This is partocularly useful, as not all receivers have a phono input.

Hello , I have a D M41 denim mini and want to be sure that the DP 400 turntable can be connected to the D M41

Asked by: Cam 27
Hi Cam 27, Yes - the DP-400 and the D-M41 pair well because the DP-400 has a built-in phono pre-amp. Once activated (equalizer on/off switch on the DP-400's rear panel), the DP-400 connects to the D-M41 courtesy of the D-M41's Analog input using the RCA cables included with the DP-400.

Hello. If the tonearm is upgraded with Denon DL-110 moving coil cartridge, will it work when using DP-400's built-in phono pre-amp?

Asked by: grt260g
Hello, The DL-110 is a high output moving coil cartridge, and therefore will work well with the phono stage built into the DP400.

Hello, I'm about to buy the DP-400 but I don't know what amplifier to buy or if it's better to buy active speakers. What amplifier and speakers do you recommend? Hope you can help me to have a nice sound system.

Asked by: Andymac
Hello, Active speakers save a bit of space, but they aren't very good at allowing your system to grow, so I shall begin by suggesting you go with a separate amplifier and speakers. As you only mention the DP-400, I will be focusing on a 2 channel system, and not surround sound. For the amplifier, I suggest taking a look at either the PMA-600NE or the DRA-800H. The PMA-600NE is a fine choice if TV isn't so important The PMA-600NE plays TV sound very impressively, but it doesn't have HDMI inputs - which you might want if you are a gamer or a movie enthusiast. If you plan to watch TV/movies at least as much as listening to music, the DRA-800H is great option as it has HDMI ports on the back panel to suit your modern AV sources. For speakers, have a look at models from Polk Audio, Definitive Technology and Bowers & Wilkins. The trick is to get the right sized speaker for the room. Small rooms like smaller speakers, medium sized rooms like small-medium sized speakers, and large rooms like large speakers. Polk Audio's Reserve Series and Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series speakers are both exceptional with music, and very popular worldwide.

Hello, I’m considering buying the DP-400. If I were to upgrade the cartridge, which ones would be compatible with this turntable? Would I have to change the headshell as well? Which headshells are compatible with the tonearm? Thank you in advance.

Asked by: StephM
Hello, Any of the cartridge models in our line-up will work for your tonearm/headshell. The DL-110 is the obvious choice if you do not have a phono pre-amp which supports low output moving coil cartridges. The DL-110 is a high output moving coil cartridge, and works well with a regular moving magnet phono pre-amp If ever you do wish to change your headshell, it needs to be the SME fitment. Does this unit have amplified outputs? Or is it best to rca connect to my Denon AVR-S960H?

Asked by: Jtsweenz
Hello, Yes - the DP-400 does need to be connected to your AVR-S960H for your speakers to produce sound. the DP-400 can connect to any of the regular analog RCA inputs of your AVR-S960H if you engage the DP-400's phono pre-amp. Otherwise, the DP-400 would need to connect to your AVR-S960H's (RCA) phono input.

Hello, The DP-400 would benefit from an upgrade to a Denon DL-110, which is a high output moving coil cartridge and works well with a regular moving magnet phono pre-amp. Here is a link to the DL-110: https://www.denon.com/en-us/product/turntables/dl-110
