Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOW the 4800 is Next Level! Dirac Live is Here! So the receiver was already a top notch upgrade, saying you have a nice set of speakers and a quality sources. But Dirac Live (Full Version) is next level, this is your reason to upgrade to the AVR-X4800H. It makes such a cohesive and balanced bubble of sound after properly* configuring Dirac (make sure to watch a few YouTube videos). Save the default results as flat, and then create a movie and music curve the way you want it to sound. Once you have it how you think* you want it, upload it to the AVR and take it for a spin. Dirac has finally freed Denon AVR's into something exceptional, not just great. JUST FYI: You'll need a MiniDSP Umik-1 (or version 2, but not necessary), the curve text file from MiniDSP (90 degree version), a microphone stand to place the mic as instructed, the full Dirac license, your laptop annnd everyone out of the room (as close to absolute silence as possible). Watch some videos on setting up Dirac 3 so that you understand the initial settings etc. After each position is completed, hold on to your hats! You may need to adjust volumes here and there afterward, but you will notice that, wow, this thing sounds WAY better than Audyssey on its very best day in a perfect world with the Apps. Denon, thank you for adding Direc Live 3, now can we have Dirac Bass Management and Dirac ART (Active Room Treatment)? Unstoppable? Thank you in advance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Receiver, Great Build Quality, A+ Very nice receiver, as per other review pretty much the exact same specs as the Marantz Cinema 40 but way cheaper. Built in Japan so a big selling feature, excellent sound, easy setup, no glitches, only runs warm not hot, nice new user interface. Very impressed with it!! Thanks Denon

Questions

I would like to use a Buckeye Hypex power amp with my x4800h. The Hypex amp says it has an input sensitivity of 1.6V. Will the preamp outs on the x4800h be sufficient to fully drive the power amp?

Asked by: mark44458
H mark44458, Yes - the Hypex will pair well with the AVR-X4800H from an input sensitivity point of view.

I have a 9.2.2 speaker set up. Would I need to run a pre-amp or can this handle all of my speakers? If a pre-amp is needed can this avr run all of my speakers at one time?

Asked by: Evolved360
Hello, The AVR-X4800H has nine powered channels. For your 9.2.2 configuration, you will need an external power amp for at least two of your channels.

When used in preamp mode (selectively or all channels) I understand the amps are disconnected at some point in the signal and helps with noise and bumps the pre out voltage but do the amps stop drawing power as well? Does total unit wattage draw decrease?

Asked by: ColinD
Hello, With the AVR-X4800H, the amplifier channels are only drawing power when there are speakers connected and there is a source signal being fed to those channels with the volume raised above 0.

Could you provide what the RMS output would be with 5 channels driven, both at 8 Ohms and 4 Ohms? I understand that Denon feels that an "all channels driven" is an unrealistic measurement, but "5" seems like a reasonable ask.

Asked by: StoopidMonkey
Hello, With the AVR-X4800H, the maximum wattage rating for 5 channels driven is approximately 70% of the 2 channel wattage rating. It is worth considering this does not mean the amplifier will be continuously outputting it's maximum wattage. This only happens when the amplifier is being driven to it's maximum, and generally well beyond what is safe for human hearing. We recommend keeping the volume at a level where the sound pressure levels are below 96dB.

I had this receiver (x4800h) for about a week. Watching ANY content, whether it is a Blu-ray disk, or even youtube content, the sound and picture stop working, then suddenly come back on about 3 to 10 seconds later. Any ideas why?

It’s the hdmi cable I finally went with audioquest forest And I’ve never believed in overpriced cables But I had the same problem with my x4300h

If I plug in an HD cable box into the component video and output to TV over HDMI, will there be any resolution issues? I do this with my AVR-X4000 so that I can watch TV and listen to music over the digital optical cable plugged into the receiver.

Asked by: X4000
Via component video, I connected a Directv receiver to my new X4800H, which was, in turn, connected via HDMI to an LG 4K television. The picture quality was dreadful. A chart on page 300 of the X4800H owner's manual indicates that the X4800H does not upscale the component signal from 480i to 1080.

Auto sense feature / Auto wake up feature. Will X4800H turn on automatically and start playback via the optical or coaxial input if a source, connected to the optical or coaxial input, starts playing music? (Similar to how HDMI ARC/CEC works.)

Asked by: Refotsirk
Hello, the Denon AVR-X4800H receiver has no auto-sensing feature for analog or optical inputs. The receiver can be powered on via HDMI ARC/eARC CEC control, HEOS app, Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, 12-volt trigger, RS-232C, or IR commands.
