Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crisp clean sound and quality I have this amp powering Klipsch surround and tower speakers and the crisp clean clear sounds and vibrant bass is very satisfying to the ears. I replaced my 80’s Harmon Kardon system and this is a step up. Technology has definitely been added and I had to learn the system and I am still learning it. However it’s an enjoyable process. It is complicated at first, but it is much easier after figuring out the app on my phone. I love that part.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Denon AVR-X3800H - best bang-for-the-buck AVR The Denon AVR-X3800H is the best receiver in its price class, and should be the most sought after mid-tier AVR for 2023! As a former Home Theater installer, I am very picky when it comes to sourcing gear for my own Home Theater Needs. I want a well-built unit, that is feature rich and has all the necessary technology to maximize my Home Theater Experience. This receiver fits the bill on every front! For starters, this receiver is future proof as all 6 HDMI inputs support the newest HDMI standard: HDMI 2.1 (40 Gbps). There is no component currently on the market or that is coming out in 2023 that this unit will not provide maximum performance and maximum compatibility with! This unit features a quality amplifier that should comfortably drive all but the most extreme high-end speakers. EVERY owner will benefit from the inclusion of the best-in-class Audyssey MultEQ XT32 automatic calibration software that will improve virtually every setup’s sound quality with its calibration magic. (Note: Power users will be able to buy an upgrade to Dirac Live - which is the very best calibration standard in the entire industry!) Some of the key features include nine channels of amplification, up to four independent subwoofers(!), Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, plus IMAX Enhanced and Auro 3D. All the critical legacy features are also there such as support for DTS HD Master audio and Dolby Atmos (amongst MANY others!) Those who are simply looking for a processor will also find the Denon AVR-X3800H to be hands down the most feature rich processor at its price point in the entire industry. (Something audioholics.com has been ranting about as well!) Lastly, I want to salute the Denon engineers for the inclusion of one AWESOME new feature - TWO zone 1 outputs that that output simultaneously! This feature has been overlooked by many because many people don’t understand its significance. This is a HUGE feature for gamers or PC users! Let me explain. Your cable box, Blu-ray player, or streaming TV box can output to one input on the TV set to the best movie or TV show display mode setting on your TV. You can have your video game systems or PC designated to output to a second zone 1 video output going to another input on the TV set to best display gaming or PC quality (often referred to as “Game Mode.”). Being able to hookup all your video game systems or PC’s to a different input on your TV set to a different display mode setting optimized for gaming or PC use is a HUGE deal for gamers or PC users to get the best picture quality while eliminating response lag from their game controllers. The Denon engineers outdid themselves with the massive technology upgrades the AVR-X3800H has received. All AVR-X3800H owners like myself are the winners and I'd like to personally thank the Denon engineers for possibly the best entry in their X3x00 series to date. Bravo!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice receiver I purchased this about 2 months ago when I stopped by my local hifi store. They had 1 in stock, so I bought it. I liked it. I upgraded my cables and now I LOVE it. I'm rewatching and relistening to a lot of my collection and absolutely hearing new things. It was a significant upgrade from my AVR-X2000 and worth every penny.

Is the firmware update for the Denon AVR-X3800H 9.4-Channel Network A/V Receiver already fixed not to turn off the Pre-Amplifier feature? The Pre-Amplifier feature is the reason I want to purchase the Denon AVR-X3800H 9.4-Channel Network A/V Receiver.

Asked by: E6Nikon
Hello, We did have an issue for a short while where the pre-ampo option wasn't displayed, but that has since been fixed with a firmware update. You can be confident the AVR-X3800H will have a fully functioning pre-out stage, the way it was indended..

On the AVR-3800H, how do you set up different speaker impedance in two zones as in Pg 55 - Zone 1 w/ all 6 ohm spkrs (FR, FC, FL, SR, SL, SBR, SBL, FHR, FHL) plus Zone 2 w/ (2) 8 ohm speakers for stereo? Pg 38 in the instructions is vague. Thank you.

Asked by: RonS
Hi RonS The impedance needs to set to the that of the speaker with the lowest impedance. The impedance setting is for all speakers in both zones. You will want to set your impedance at 6 ohms. Carry out the following settings when using a speaker with an impedance of 4 – 6 Ω/ohms. 1. Press and hold the main unit’s ZONE2 SOURCE and STATUS at the same time for at least 3 seconds. “V.Format:< NTSC>” appears on the display. 2. Press DIMMER on the main unit three times. “Sp.Imp.:<8ohms>” appears on the display. 3. Press TUNER PRESET CH + or TUNER PRESET CH - on the main unit to select the impedance. 8ohms (Default): 4. 6 ohms. Select when the impedance for any of the connected speakers is 6 Ω/ohms. Press the main unit’s STATUS to complete the setting. https://manuals.denon.com/AVRX3800H/NA/EN/DRDZSYrhoargxb.php#DRDZMLazvcgfip

I just got my 3800h last week. I’m not yet done with my setting up my speakers. When I use the amp for more than 30mins then I press the SETUP button on the remote, the tv goes blank. I have to unplug the amp from power outlet for setup mode.

Asked by: farmer
Hello, I suggest a soft reset. This entails disconnecting your AVR-X3800H and TV from their HDMI cable (at both ends) and from their power sources for at least 15 minutes, then powering back up again and reconnnecting the HDMI cable. This should reset the HDMI handshake between the two devices. Also, check to make sure you have a good quality (they vary in how well they are made) newer version HDMI cable.

Am I able to set up a separate subwoofer in zone 2 with the x3800 receiver. Also, is there a separate HDMI output for zone 2 so that I can have something different showing in each zone?

Asked by: Btrini
Hi Btrini, Yes - you can use a sub-woofer in Zone 2, but it would need to be a sub-woofer with speaker in and out terminals. This is because there is no Zone 2 LFE pre-out on the AVR-X3800H, so the speaker wire feed to the Zone 2 location will need to go into the compatible sub-woofer first, then back out to the Zone 2 speakers from the sub-woofer. 12 or 10 gauge speaker wire is recommended for long runs to other locations from the AVR-X3800H, especially when used with a sub-woofer in the path.. The AVR-X3800H has a Zone 2 HDMI output (4K), so you can enjoy watching a different video source to the Main Zone when viewing in Zone 2. When using long HDMI runs, it is recommended to use HDMI baluns or high quality fiber optic HDMI cables to avoid handshake issues.

I bought my 3800H last October and I love it! I will be purchasing the Dirac license soon (Full Bandwidth). Can you recommend a compatible microphone as the Audessey mike will not work with Dirac

Asked by: HerbieK
Hello, Dirac Live requires an omnidirectional calibration microphone with an associated calibration file. Dirac suggests the miniDSP UMIK-1 microphone (easily found with a search engine) due to its ease of use and universal drivers. In addition to a compatible omnidirectional calibration microphone, the Dirac Live calibration software must be installed on a Windows or macOS computer. Both the Dirac Live application and the Dirac Live-supported hardware need to be connected to the same network to facilitate communication.

I'm going to buy Nakamichi's Dragon soundbar, if I buy an AVR x3800, will I be able to connect them to get help having Auro 3D in my system? It has Dolby Atmos, DTS.X Pr

Asked by: Edfilm
Hello, The AVR-X3800H supports Auro 3D and allows for conventional connectivity of passive speakers for a surround sound set-up. The AVR-X3800H also has 4 sub-woofer outputs, so it offers a wide range of options when considering which speaker set-up to use. Soundbars are not typically designed to connect to receivers as most Soundbars have their own amplification and processors built-in. We do not have access to Nakamichi Soundbar products, so we are unable to confirm what they offer for connectivity.

Asked by: steveO2
Hello, The Dirac option was made available as of March 15th, so it should show-up in the menu of your AVR if your AVR-X3800H has the latest firmware update. There are currently two package options available. The first package is $259.00, the second package is $349.00 For more information on these packages and other elements to the Dirac Live upgrade option, this link will go into detail for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBB063_FdSA
