Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crisp clean sound and quality I have this amp powering Klipsch surround and tower speakers and the crisp clean clear sounds and vibrant bass is very satisfying to the ears. I replaced my 80’s Harmon Kardon system and this is a step up. Technology has definitely been added and I had to learn the system and I am still learning it. However it’s an enjoyable process. It is complicated at first, but it is much easier after figuring out the app on my phone. I love that part.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Denon AVR-X3800H - best bang-for-the-buck AVR The Denon AVR-X3800H is the best receiver in its price class, and should be the most sought after mid-tier AVR for 2023! As a former Home Theater installer, I am very picky when it comes to sourcing gear for my own Home Theater Needs. I want a well-built unit, that is feature rich and has all the necessary technology to maximize my Home Theater Experience. This receiver fits the bill on every front! For starters, this receiver is future proof as all 6 HDMI inputs support the newest HDMI standard: HDMI 2.1 (40 Gbps). There is no component currently on the market or that is coming out in 2023 that this unit will not provide maximum performance and maximum compatibility with! This unit features a quality amplifier that should comfortably drive all but the most extreme high-end speakers. EVERY owner will benefit from the inclusion of the best-in-class Audyssey MultEQ XT32 automatic calibration software that will improve virtually every setup’s sound quality with its calibration magic. (Note: Power users will be able to buy an upgrade to Dirac Live - which is the very best calibration standard in the entire industry!) Some of the key features include nine channels of amplification, up to four independent subwoofers(!), Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, plus IMAX Enhanced and Auro 3D. All the critical legacy features are also there such as support for DTS HD Master audio and Dolby Atmos (amongst MANY others!) Those who are simply looking for a processor will also find the Denon AVR-X3800H to be hands down the most feature rich processor at its price point in the entire industry. (Something audioholics.com has been ranting about as well!) Lastly, I want to salute the Denon engineers for the inclusion of one AWESOME new feature - TWO zone 1 outputs that that output simultaneously! This feature has been overlooked by many because many people don’t understand its significance. This is a HUGE feature for gamers or PC users! Let me explain. Your cable box, Blu-ray player, or streaming TV box can output to one input on the TV set to the best movie or TV show display mode setting on your TV. You can have your video game systems or PC designated to output to a second zone 1 video output going to another input on the TV set to best display gaming or PC quality (often referred to as “Game Mode.”). Being able to hookup all your video game systems or PC’s to a different input on your TV set to a different display mode setting optimized for gaming or PC use is a HUGE deal for gamers or PC users to get the best picture quality while eliminating response lag from their game controllers. The Denon engineers outdid themselves with the massive technology upgrades the AVR-X3800H has received. All AVR-X3800H owners like myself are the winners and I'd like to personally thank the Denon engineers for possibly the best entry in their X3x00 series to date. Bravo!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice receiver I purchased this about 2 months ago when I stopped by my local hifi store. They had 1 in stock, so I bought it. I liked it. I upgraded my cables and now I LOVE it. I'm rewatching and relistening to a lot of my collection and absolutely hearing new things. It was a significant upgrade from my AVR-X2000 and worth every penny.

Questions

Would it be possible to mix and match powered and externally amplified speakers to go to 7.2.4 surround sound? I am looking to do 5.2.4 now and in a year or so add two powered speakers in the rear to achieve 7.2.4

Asked by: Chris Harg
Hello, Yes - this is easily done wwith the AVC-X3800H as it has pre-outs which are activated the moment you connect an external power amplifier or powered/active speaker to them.

The product manual describes three types of connections for playing content on the ZONE2, that is, via HDMI, PRE OUT or SPEAKERS connectors. Can these methods be combined? For example, could I have my ZONE2 fed via both HDMI and SPEAKERS at the same time?

Asked by: Caio
Hello. Yes. With the AVR-X3800H, once you select a Zone 2 source, the content will be available through the (assigned) Zone 2 speaker ports, the Zone 2 HDMI terminal and the Zone 2 Pre-out simultaneously.

Does the 2024 model of this receiver have three assignable pairs, up from two on last years model?

Asked by: SpencerON
Hello, We haven't changed anything with assignable speaker ports since the inception of the AVR-X3800H. Three of the speaker pair ports are still assignable. Nine channels are powered, so if you have all eleven speaker ports connected, two of them will not be powered without switching the configuration to null one of the other wired pairs (switching between a 9.1 set-up to a 7.1 + Zone 2 set-up for example).

I have an AC Infinity fan on top of my present AV receiver. Will this still be ok with your receiver, as I read that it requires 6 inches of space on the top?

Asked by: SteveBC
Hello, While we have not tested any of Inifinity's fan products, we understand they are proving to be effective with many of our customers who use one with their Denon AVRs. 6" clearance is recommended for those who do not have an Infinity fan for their Denon AVRs.

Hi there, we purchased this amp assuming we could power a 7.1.4 Atmos setup, but it seems like only 9 channels are available as powered outputs. Is that correct? If so, why is it being marketed as a 9.4 amp when it only handles 9 channels?

Asked by: JLyon
Hello, The AVR-X3800H does have 9 powered channels and 4 subwoofer pre-outs. 9.4 represents how many speaker ports can be used simultaneously (9), and how many subwoofers pre-outs are available (4). 7.1.4 represents 11 powered speakers; 7 speakers around the listener, 4 Atmos/height speakers, and finally a subwoofer connected to the subwoofer pre-out. The AVR-X3800H can deliver 7.1.4 if you add an optional external 2 channel (or more) power amplifier.

Hello, will this receiver work fine with three audio-only zones (terrace, living room, kitchen with two speakers per zone) and one video/audio zone (family)? if yes, how many speakers can I connect to the family? Thanks

Asked by: cjarah
Hello, Yes - when you add our wireless Home speakers you can have up to 32 different Zones for the AVR-X3800H to feed. Each zone can have a single or multiple speakers. Even a wireless subwoofer can be paired with any wireless Home speakers in any room. Here is a link to our wireless Home Speakers: https://www.denon.com/en-us/category/wireless-speakers/ If you are hardwiring all your speakers, the AVR-X3800H has support for 2 Zones.

Does the x3800H have a 70% guarantee like the Marantz Cinema 60?

Asked by: JPipp
Hello, Yes - the AVR-X3800H has the same 5 channel 70% guarantee as found on the Marantz Cinema 60. Given how most speakers require only a few watts to go loud, it is unlikely you will need to consider approaching full output. We recommend staying below 96dB to help prevent permanent hearing damage.

Will HEOS stream Dolby Atmos and other spatial formats to the X3800H?

Asked by: BillRoundRock
Hello, Unfortunately, even though the AVR-X3800H supports it as a surround sound format, Dolby Atmos streaming is not currently supported by HEOS.
