Inside Denon

With HEOS, multi-room audio is easier than you think

A great soundtrack elevates the atmosphere: A favourite album can make a quiet morning feel intentional. A podcast can make dinner prep move faster. A game-day playlist can turn the den into the place everyone wants to be.

But one room is never really the whole story. Because life moves from room to room, your music should be able to move with it. From the kitchen to the living room to the spaces upstairs, whole-home audio helps every part of the house feel connected.

With Denon products Powered by HEOS, it’s easy to build a whole-home listening experience that fits the way you live now and gives you room to grow later.

Controlling multiroom audio via the HEOS app

What is multi-room audio?

Multi-room audio lets you play music in more than one room from a connected system you can control from one app. Play one thing in the dining room and something else in a bedroom, or stream the same playlist throughout the entire house during a party. Instead of carrying a speaker from room to room or turning up the TV so you can hear music in the kitchen, each space gets the sound it deserves.

HEOS is the platform that ties it together

HEOS is the wireless platform that connects compatible Denon products, including speakers, sound bars, AV receivers, amplifiers, and more. From the HEOS app, you can choose what to play, where to play it, group systems and rooms, and adjust volume, without any of it feeling technical. The point isn’t to manage a system—it’s to hear what you want, where you want it.

Begin with one room. Grow from there.

A whole-home audio system does not have to start with your whole home.

The simplest first step is a Denon Home wireless speaker in the room where music already matters most, whether that’s the kitchen, the bedroom, or a home office. Setup is straightforward: Plug in the speaker, connect it through the HEOS app, link your favorite music services or home library, and start listening.

When you’re ready, add another room. Put a speaker in the office. Connect a sound bar in the living room. You can even bring your vinyl into HEOS through a compatible Denon AVR

Mix, match, and make it yours

Your home doesn’t need the same audio setup in every space. A compact Denon Home speaker may be ideal for a bedroom, office, or dining area. A Denon sound bar can transform TV sound in a media room. A Denon AV receiver can power a full home theater or a pair of passive speakers you already own, pulling that setup into the same connected system.

That flexibility matters because real homes aren’t showrooms. Some rooms call for big, immersive sound. Others are built around a screen. Some just need better audio without adding visual clutter. With HEOS, compatible Denon products can work together as one connected system, so you can mix, match, and expand without starting over.

No rewiring required

Traditional whole-home audio used to feel like a major renovation: contractors, speaker wire through the walls, specialized equipment, and a plan that had to be perfect before anything could begin.

HEOS takes a different approach. Denon Home speakers connect over your home network, so there’s no need to run speaker wire between rooms. A strong Wi-Fi network helps everything run smoothly, so you can create a connected listening experience without turning the house into a weekend project.

Extraordinary sound in every room

Convenience doesn’t mean much without the performance to match. Through HEOS and your home Wi-Fi network, you can access high-resolution streaming from compatible services and supported music files from your own library. Denon systems then bring that detail to life with rich, room-filling sound, hand-tuned by the Denon Sound Master in Japan and backed by more than a century of acoustic expertise. From the Denon Home 600 in a great room to the Denon Home 200 in a bedroom or office, every speaker brings Denon quality into the spaces where you listen.

Multi-room audio sounds more complicated than it is. With HEOS, it isn’t about building an elaborate system; it’s about making great sound easier to enjoy in more of the places where life actually happens.

Frequently asked questions

Is a multi-room system only for music?

No. Music is the obvious starting point, but compatible Denon products can also support TV sound, movies, gaming, and home theater. That makes it easy to build a system that handles everyday listening in some rooms and bigger entertainment moments in others.

Do I need to replace the gear I already own?

If you already have a Denon AVR powered by HEOS, it is already the first zone in your multi-room setup. From there, you can add Denon Home speakers in other rooms as needed.

Does wireless mean lower sound quality?

No. Denon Home is built for high-quality listening over Wi-Fi, including high-resolution streaming from compatible services like TIDAL, Qobuz, and Amazon Music HD. You can also play supported high-resolution files from your own music library, including formats like DSD, FLAC, ALAC, and WAV.

How many HEOS products can I connect?

HEOS supports up to 64 compatible products in one system, so you can start with one room and keep expanding over time.

Do I have to use the HEOS app for everything?

No. The HEOS app gives you easy control over your Denon Home system, and it conducts your whole-home music experience, but it’s not the only way to listen. You can stream directly from compatible music service apps, use AirPlay 2, connect over Bluetooth, and use clever Quick Select buttons to recall music sources without using a smart device at all. HEOS brings it all together, so your music is easy to access however you like to play it.
